Why did the 92 cricket world cup take place after a 5yr gap?

It was because it was held in Australia and New Zealand and the cricket season is held at a different time of the year. It was still being held in the 1991-1992 season but just at the end of the season. The actual gap between the world cups was 4 years and 3 months ... Incidentally the 1996 and 1999 world cups only had 3 years between them which was for the same reason.
