Cats or Dogs?

Which do you like better, cats or dogs or both, and why? I know a lot of dog people. I can see why people like dogs. They are affectionate and fun. But I'm just not good with dogs. I'm scared of big dogs, and I don't like how hyper some dogs can be. On the other hand, I love my cats. They greet me at the door and sleep with me at night. They like to be petted and will snuggle up to me. They are friendly but like their space, which suits my personality. They are also fairly low-maintenance.

One word: Cats. Maybe the reason is because we has cats in the house when I was born, and I grew up with them. We had this really, really large bungalow when I was younger, and I had about ten to twelve cats and kittens around me ALL the time. So, yeah. Also, I've always been afraid of dogs. *hids* They just bite way too much. And they're really scary, sometimes. _

Yeah, dogs can be scary, especially big ones. I grew up with a dog and cats, so it's not that I'm not used to being around dogs, but big dogs scare me unless I know them. And cats are cleaner and easier to take care of.

When I someday get a house I'll probably want both but for now I'm more of a cat person. They're a bit of a lower maitenance animal, cleaner, and easier to cuddle with. Dogs are great though, they can be very loyal companions.

Yes, I agree with you on all counts. Cats are definitely easier in an apartment. I wish people wouldn't try to keep big dogs in an apartment, as some of my neighbors do. It's not fair to the dog, in my opinion. They need a yard and they need to be walked more often than they probably are.

Don't get me wrong,I love dogs -all animals- immensely- but cats are definately my favorite. As you said ,they are low maintenence but I also love their independence and their curiosity, the way they have to explore everything in sight and of course we can cuddle with our kitties. Dogs are too complacent ,you tell to come, they come, you tell a cat to come, and he comes when he's ready and I love that.

I love cats' independence and curiousity, too. Not to mention their cuddliness.

I have 4 cats, I prefer cats at the present time because no ones home and they are pretty independant.. but it would be nice to have a dog someday.

Yes, cats' indepedence is nice. I know mine miss me when I am gone, but they hold up better than a dog would, and also they have each other for company.

I prefer cat. They are more sentitive to the needs of their masters.

You think so? This kind of surprises me, as I think most people tend to think cats are more aloof than dogs (well, "aloof" if you're a dog person, "independent" if you're a cat person). I do think that my cats are senstive to me, though. Once when I was really stressed out, one of my cats came up to me and just cuddled up, purring loudly. You can't stay tensed up when you have a purring cat cuddled up to you. It's just not possible.

Straight to the point, you are. I guess the reason everyone has answered "cat" as their favorite (more or less) is because I posted this in "cats." I imagine if I had posted it in "dogs" the reaction would have been much different. Lot of people like both, though.
