Well it is possible, By using mirrors, like in magic tricks. or by strong magnetic fields.
But for becoming invisible in combat situations?
In the mirror option it would require several large mirrors being set up prematurely. the lighting has to be perfect, and the viewpoint of the enemy must be known perfectly. And all that unnoticed by the enemy.
The gravity option would probably require some kind of black hole, which isn't practical because the enemy would notice the world being sucked up by it.

Such a cloaking technology is already under testing by US Military. I remember to have seen a program in discovery channel or national geographic channel.
If i remember right, U dont bend the light for this but a series of cams on the outer suit continously film the back ground and project them in foreground in such a way that u seem invisible. For the viewer, it is a continous background picture without any breaks
