While in my local grocery store i was looking at all the checkouts and there were 9 open and all pretty full of customers waiting to be checked out, something i noticed was, not a single person bothered to bag there own groceries but yet there faces looked like they were disgruntled with the long lines. Why wouldnt you bag your own groceries? I do it everytime so i know what to put in each bag to make it that much easier to put away when i get home...so my question is this...are you one of the lazy ones who stand there looking like a slug, do nothing but are in a rush or do you bag your own stuff so you can not only get out faster but help the people behind you move along that much faster.

I will often bag my own groceries if there isn't a person there to do it and if I am able to get to the bags easily. Some stores have the bags only on the side of the counter with the cashier because they don't want people using more bags than necessary when baging their own items. I worked at a store in a mall years ago where we were actually instructed on when to give larger bags vs. two smaller bags and how much each one cost so that we would be as "effecent" (cheap) as possible when checking people out. I always felt my job was in jeapordy when a cutomer would ask for an extra bag! :-) When waiting in line, I've learned to be very Zen about the whole thing. Getting fustrated about having to wait doesn't get me out faster, it just makes me more irratible so I just do my best to entertain myself while the person in front of me writes their check (I am always behind a check writer!)

People are lazy and think that it is the cashiers job to do it, so why should they. I try to if it's a place that has baggers and it's easy to help. When I was a cashier I didn't have a bagger and did it myself, but the lane was set up to work without a bagger. (think super walmart)
