March 1, 1975 Television is broadcast in colour for the first time in Australia.
March 2, 1996 The Coalition is elected and John Howard becomes Prime Minister of Australia.
March 3, 1911
The city of Palmerston in the Northern Territory is renamed Darwin in honour of Charles Darwin.
March 8, 1828
Australia's first postman was appointed in Sydney, a private servant of George Panton, the Sydney Postmaster.
March 15, 1877
Cricketers representing England and Australia played the first Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
March 18, 1985
The TV show Neighbours premieres on the Seven Network. Six months later it is axed, but Network Ten picks it up and the show becomes part of legend.
March 19, 1932
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is opened to traffic.
March 25, 1936
Tasmania is connected to mainland Australia by telephone for the first time.
March 26, 1984
The $100 note was put into circulation. Sir Douglas Mawson and John Tebbutt were illustrated on the note.

The first federal election of the Commonwealth of Australia elected members and senators to the first Parliament.

Thanks a lot for all that information.My husband and I would love to go to Australia some day. We talk about it all the time, but seems like we never have the money for it.I hope some day we can go.
