Do You Phone The Police Or Talk To The OWNER

You're in a parking lot and you see someone run into one of the parked vehicles, then leave the scene knowing there is damage done. Do you call the police from your cell phone with the licence plate number, do you wait and talk to the owner of the car or mind your own bussiness and go home ?

I would give the owner the license number and the model and make of the car, I would also give him my name and number. That way he can turn it in to his insurance. I would let the ownetr call teh police and be a witness. My neighbor called me around three one morning. SOmeone had hit and run both of our cars and took out our fence and the fire hydrant. We called the police and tehy were not very concerned about it. One of the cars had about 2500 in damages. And if the hit and run driver is not caught you are responsible for your deductible. We were pretty lucky she had seen it,the driver was caught. So I would definitely not ignore it if it happenned to anyone else.

I guess when it hits us we get the full impact. I would like to think everyone would offer this info, but it is shocking how many do not want to get involved.

No, I wouldn't mind my own business and go home. I feel I would have a moral responsibility to inform the police. If I could, I would stay and talk to the police and I would also talk to the owners of whose cars were damaged and give them the details of the car responsible for the damage.

I was a witness to this a while ago where I was sitting in my car and saw this other car try to get into a park and hit one of the cars and then after great effort of trying to get out of the situation just took off. I did get out of my car and took the rego. number and wrote it on a piece of paper and put it under the wiper blades of the damaged car, and you could not miss that something had happened. The car that hit was a bright blue and the car that was hit was black, so all along the side was this bright blue paint.

As the others have already said, I would write down all pertinent information; call police and wait for, or at least write down the vehicles information of the car that was hit as well...If you could keep an eye on the damaged car and yet go into the establishments close at hand, you might be able to find owner quicker.
