What is the greatest source of individual human unhappiness?

I don't mean this in the general sense of worldwide unhappiness but for individuals. What do you think is the most common cause of depression or unhappiness in people's lives?

I think the singlemost cause of depresssion or unhappiness comes from lack of connection with others. Lonliness is a killer. When people think they are totally alone they lose meaning in life. Even when times are hard, you can usually make it through with a good group of friends, but without friends things always seem that much more dire.

In my life it's a break in a relationship which I thought was going to last forever, finding that the person whom you loved was not the person they seemed, that perhaps they had broken your trust, broken your promises for you, which you thought were secure, and perhaps lied, or/and cheated on you. A broken heart and a destroyed soul results from this and to my mind that's the worst thing in the world, to have your whole spirit and zest for life crushed. I can't, of course speak for other people, as we all differ. I hate to let myself down too. I always want to be the best that I can, supporting and loving my friends and indeed, all other humans. Brightest Blessings.

From what the talk my female friends have I would say firstly problems with their partners, affairs of the heart, maybe not getting the love the way they want and secondly I guess the lack of money....
