He has been raised around cats and they eat out of the same bowl ,sleep together, etc ,but there is one cat (that is a stray and we just noticed the other day hanging around) that our dog (he is a german shapherd) cannot stand! he chases the cat everytime he sees him . He chased him up a tree yesterday and the cat would not come down for a long time. it was kind of funny and sad at the same time. I do not know why our dog does not like this cat. we have other strays that hang around.

First the eating the same foods is not right for either type animal. Dogs cannot handle the proteins in catfood and there is not enough in dog food for proper health for the cat. Rethink this one, please. Animals are more sophisticated than we are. That cat may have something that is not good for the group. They also communicate and this new cat may have offended the German Shepherd. You could go far to possibly encourage the dog to accept this new cat. Reward the dog for good behavior. The only thing is that maybe it will still happen when you are not around. Like kids, if you laughed at this, it will be harder to adjust if you try to. Good luck with this. I teach tolerance among our critters and do not approve of any fighting. They know it.

yeah they eat seperate food ,but when i feed the cats their food he always goes over to see what i am giving them and when i feed him the cats go over and see what i am feeding him. they think that each is getting more or something. it is funny. our rottie is older and he just stays away from them all ,but lately i have noticed this one cat sneaking on the front porch and curling up with cujo and sleeping all night with him. it is so cute . i am trying to figure out my flash on my new camera and i will take pics.

Perhaps he doesn't like her smell, lol.I ,too, had a german shepherd ,but not as nice as yours :-P She used to chase away all the cats in her vicinity and even some that were out of sight, lol. All she needed to hear was a meaw and her ears would stand up ready to pounce on her next prey ,lol.I am laughing coz she never managed to get them:-P They were always too fast for her coz most of the times they would jump up the wall and she would keep barking, lol.ThankGod cats are so agile .Otherwise, it's hard for them to survive these little hunters, lol.

Your dog is smart. He's just like human who can be annoyed to a certain person. I like your dog. He's amazing. :-)
