Best way to cook Steak?

I love steak but if you don't cook it right, you end up with shoe leather or cowhide. What is your favoritr way to cook a steak? I like to take kosher or sea salt and pour some in a cast iron skillet. Then I get the pan real hot and throw in the steak. It gets a nice brown salty crust on the outside and keeps the steak juicy. After taht I just cook it until it is the way I like it. Any other good steak ideas?

I think steak tastes the best when cooked on a charcoal grill. You can give it even more flavor if you add a handful of hickory chips to the coals before you start cooking. I can almost smell it now. I can't wait for the snow to melt so we can have cookouts.

We all look forward to starting up the grill and eating great food cooked on it. However, my husband gave up charcoal a long time ago LOL. He has no patience and when he wants to cook he doesn't want to wait for the charcoals to heat up. Thanks for the reply

I am the same way. I have three kids so there is no way they could wait for the coals to get ready. I still think the steak tastes better over charcoal though.

That sounds good! I have a freezer full of steak right now, however it's not practical to cook it on the BBQ since we have a few feet of snow right now. I think I will try your way! I like to marinate it in “chi pole” marinade for hours (if it's London broil I do it over night-seeing how they are ALWAYS so tough!) then put it on the BBQ. It's the only way I know and sometimes that doesn't even turn out exactly right. I sear my roasts before I roast them the same as you do the steaks. It locks in the juices. Roast beef was always a like "shoe leather" with me until I seared it in oil and a hot skillet before roasting, now it is ALWAYS tender and flavorful!

I hear you about the BBQ, we are also covered with a few feet of snow. I love to marinate most meats but I end up getting too busy and forget to do it so I always look for a quicker easier way to fix my meats without prepare ahead. Thanks for your response!!

I soak my steaks in marinade for a couple of hours before cooking. I use sea salt as well. I almost always cook them on the grill. I like my food well done.
