What is your experience with antidepressants, and which one/one's worked for you?

I've never tried anything like that and unless my doctor forced me I would never take anything like that. Today doctors give away antidepressants just because you have an off day. We are talking hard meds here... Insane...

Um. I don't think you've ever been clinically depressed, am I right? If you had, you'd know that *responsible* doctors don't pass out medications like they are Pez. And, even if you're under a psychiatrists care you may not get any at all! You'd also know that depression is a chemical imbalance. It's a lot like having diabetes. Would you fight your doctor over taking your insulin? No, you'd be happy there was something, anything, out there to help you. It's the same with depression --which is having that "off day" every single day, week after week after year. People who are asking questions about medication are usually way beyond "snapping out of it," and a response like yours can make them feel even worse (they've failed AGAIN!, God doesn't hear their prayers! St Johnswort hasn't worked because it really is best for the blues, not clinical depression). While we're all glad you are strong and healthy, please be aware that your comment sounds very belittling and uncaring about the great pain depression causes so many of us.

I think you're right that they've never experienced true depression. I've suffered with it and believe me, if there was anyway to "snap out of it", I would. No one ever asks to be depressed. It runs in my family and medication really is the best option for me. Cymbalta seems to work pretty well for me. But everyone is different.

Believe me, as a person diagnodsed with Bipolar/OCD and Depression a combo of antideppresant, and meds for Bi and OCd has saved my life. I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that if I didn't have these meds I would be in a rubber room the resst of my life. So, my meds are NON NEGOTIABLE!!! I have been on several anti depressants over the years and everyone responds differently to a med. For quite a while now, 6 years I have been taking Pexeva. It's an offshoot of Paxil, though Paxil did NOTHINg for me.... It's entirrely possible you may have to tryone or two before you find the best fit for you...

Prozac is the worst. I have been on Welbutrin and it helped for awhile, but I seemed to have built up a tolerance to it. I am on Zoloft now for 2 years and I have never been better. It is not a magic pill. Everyone has good days and bad days, but my depression symptoms are all but gone.

I'm afraid you should ask your doctor this question.Any answer you would get here can not be considered as to treating any medical condition.Your doctor is the only one that would know what is good for you. Good luck. :)

I would suggest dont take any medicine or therapy. If you have best friend you wont feel depression. But also know that you have to find the cause of depression and remove the cause than symptoms like depression. you can talk more if you dont have any one to talk to.

Hi there, this is something that you should really talk to your doctor about, since there are a number of different types and they each have different side effects, for example you may be unable to drive if you take them. Most take a few days to get into your system so won't immediately benefit. I've had St Johns Wort which is a herbal pill and available from pharmacies but again it's always a good idea to seek advice, especially if on any other forms of medication.
