Try crowd pleaser songs you like, have fun singing and are comfortable with. Keep in mind that people appreciate familiarity even if they don't admit it. I have no Idea of your vocal style but heres a few songs I could see going over rather well and why. 1. Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney: People enjoy songs that climax. This would be great if you have a more classic singing voice. It's familiar, but it's not something people would expect to hear. 2. Crazy, Amazin' Don't Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith: If you sing more rock but still want something that wont tick off people who enjoy easier music these could be softened up if needed, but would get a crowd's attention. 3.Like Country at all? Try "If Tomorrow Never Comes" by Garth brooks: It'll tug at people's heartstrings and there's a lot of room for making the song more pop than country as well. If I think of anymore I'll write them in. I like this discussion =)

I also sing but I don't have this dream of hitting it really big in competitions. But I encourage you to pursue that dream. If I had been 15 years younger, I would have reconsidered. I do public performances and in choosing what song to sing, I consider my voice quality. Let's face it, my friend, there are really good singers who will look and sound funny when they sing songs that are not suited to their voice quality. The next thing is the message of the song. The emotion it expresses. It must first, be able, to waken a certain emotion in me because if it couldn't, I wouldn't be able to give it the justice it deserves. I've uploaded a video of me performing at youtube. The link I am providing in here goes straight to "A Very Special Love" which was originally performed by Maureen McGovern and which is being reintroduced by Lani Misalucha (you know her if you are a Filipino). You might like the song... it's a bit vocally challenging.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esziDo6rKyE
