Try having after six DIET and hundred sit ups before going to sleep at night and first thing in the morning.

Crunches won't hurt your back and they are much more effective for firming your tummy but you have to do them right. Don't pull on your head. Let your abs do all the work. Also, don't scrunch your head down so your chin touches your chest. Keep your neck straight and look at the ceiling. Lift your chest straight up. Don't curl up. Abs actually respond quickly and they'll become easier pretty soon. It's better to do a few with good form than a bunch with bad form. You can work your abs every day. Good luck!

even one of my friend who is a trainer told me the same thing but the bad thing about it is that in a long run its going to hurt your knee and there might be a chances of back ache.

You can't really do spot reduction. You can at most strengthen the abs muscle there... a myth from old days. You have to do aerobics exercises such as running to reduce your body fat overall.. then situps may help to firm the tummy.
