My son, 4 years old, seems to have caught some sort of stomach virus. He started feeling not well last night, and now it seems to have spread to me as well. He doesn't have much or really any appetite right now. I sent dad out to get ginger ale, fresh ginger, crackers & some soup. Which are what I always reach for when I am feeling under the weather. Anyone have any suggestions for other comforting foods while ill?

I like rice or toast when I have a stomach bug. Maybe a little jam on the toast. but stay away from butter or any other kinds of oils. My mom used to cook the rice in chicken broth rather than water. This way the rice got a little flavor without being over powering or needing butter. If fact...it's a good way to make rice even when you are not sick. I think ginger ale and fresh ginger are great ideas. I have heard making the ginger ale flat is better. Remember to stay hydrated. In my city there is some kind of stomch flu epidemic doing around and people are getting even more sick from not staying hydrated (a co-workers wife even fainted). So take care of yourself and hope you are both feeling better soon!

Just about a month ago we got over a cold that lasted about 2-3 weeks for us. It was awful, I hope this isn't as long lasting. I think I'll try rice for lunch. Thanks for the ideas :)

there is a stomach virus that is going around here in nh. i had it for 2 weeks, and what a hassle..all you can do is not take any anti diarral meds for it will slow the healing down. you want it to keep flushing the virus out. give plenty of gatorade/water so you both don't dehydrate and rest. that is all you really can do til it finishes its course. it can take up to 3 weeks to get rid of, and can be passed around the house. alot of lysol as well and anti bacterial soap. you don't want anything that would give you loose bowels like chocolate, apple juice, etc. for you don't want to add to the problem nor get confused on what is causing it.sorry, thats all i can suggest..
