cooking steaks frozen

I recently bought some steaks from this guy that drives around in a truck selling them..my husband has bought from him before and they were really good. Now I bought some last week and they were from a different company. I cooked a ribeye and it was really tough..not good at all. I called them and they asked me how I cooked it..whether it was frozen or not..I said NO I do not cook them from frozen..they asked me to try cooking one frozen on the grill first...now what about my marinade...has anyone ever done this before or had the experience with meat...
