My daughter (12 yr old) had a headache the other day and asked me if she could take some Heroin for it. After I picked my jaw off the ground I realised she meant paracetamol tablets. We have a brand in Australia called Herron and it was this she wanted not Heroin....Thank goodness. What are some of the mix ups your kids have made when talking?

My daughter just turned six and she was eating graped with her little brother the other day. She started feeding him the grapes as he was laying on the floor and then made the comment that he was a vegetarian now. I was like "A What??" She said he was a vegetarian because he was pretending to eat the grapes off the bunch while he was laying down......so I had to ask her where she learned that and she said "i don't know..it just sounded right to me"...so I had to explain to her what a vegetarian was...and not to assume things just because they sound right!! Funny girl!!

Quite funny! The child had alluded to the habit of domestic herbivorous animals that munch vegetables; probably you can teach this word "herbivorous" to the girl. This is the way children learn the right usage of words. A child who tries to use words that she/ he knows in conversation will definitely develop an awesome vocabulary later in life.

Lissienpaul, I now what you're talking about the things kids pick up at school! I hated that at age 7 I had to explain to my daughter what the word w h o r e ment. I did not appreciate that at all.

It would be good if we could protect them from some things for just a little longer wouldn't it?

12 year olds are something aren't they?! I have a 12 year old daughter also and dang she comes up with some odd stuff. The other day she asked me out of the blue if I'd be mad if she became a burlesque dancer. We weren't even talking about that! I have learned to control my face because that is what she's looking for - a reaction. I then think back to when I was that age and remember my brother and I says weird stuff to get a rise out of our mom. I'm being paid back! I'm glad to hear it's no just mine that is acting daft!

my daughter is often coming up with stuff like this. I think she actually got it confused though. When I asked her what David Beckhams first name was the other day (soccer star) she said "Bend it.."

hi, 14missy. I think you should check on her again if it was just a mixed up with the other name of the tablet or if she really heard it somewhere from som stranger...we never know. We want the best protection. My children dont say any strange things but some words that are too early for them to learn. I cant say it straight here but the words are learned or heard from their classmates. My kids are only 6 and 7 yrs old and I really communicate with them about what they did in school and I try to be detailed with my questions as much as possible. Whew, kids:)
