Is it wrong to have your husband buy nothing for you for a special occasion?

I feel guilty to spend money on gifts for myself when we are trying to save or I know I could use it for the kids. Is this normal?

Very much so. And I commend you on sacrificing your own gift for your childeren. My wife and I don't have kids and we don't buy each other gifts becasue we have other expensis we need to take care of. Or we are saving up for something big.

I understand your guilt, however, you do have a very important agenda, ie for the future of your kids. Have you considered in taking up a compulsory, structured saving program

yes, i completely agree with you, it is not necessary to constantly spend money on gifts. It's better to be responsible now instead of being in trouble later. There are lot of ways to celebrate with out $.

It is normal for us. We do not exchange gifts at Christmas time or buy for birthdays. We just give each other a nice card. At Christmas time we stuff each other a stocking with a few small items up to a total of 20 dollars.
