Should junk food be banned in schools?

Do you think junk food shoud be banned in schools? Is it really a good idea to make schools' meals healthier? Is not that, having a healthy diet makes it easier to concentrate whereas large amounts of sugar and fizzy drinks make people have shorter concentration spans and make kids hyper? A recent study explains that junk food or processed food is responsible for bad behavior and learning difficulties in children. Junk food stops the brain working properly, leading to underachievement and a host of disorders. It further states that giving children essential fats (found in fish & nuts)could improve their brainpower. Their ability to learn and their behavior will improve by supplementing their diets with such fats. Food, of course, affects behavior; so junk foods like burger, chips, wafers salty & sugary snacks etc.to be avoided to certain extent. To ignore the role of nutrition is indefensible. If you pay attention to diet, you can really make a difference. Any suggestions?

I would have to say a resounding YES to this one hun. Kids eat far too much junk food these days, and so do the parents too. A proper balanced and healthy diet is so much better for growing kids, with junk foods being relegated to a once in a while treat. I tried to make sure my son ate decent meals and healthy foods, he is now a strapping 21 years old with a good appreciation of decent food.

I dont know whether you know or not, in most of the schools junk foods are not allowed. And they appreciate and encourage the kids who brings healthy snack for their snack time like fruits and fresh vegetables. Even in my son's school (he is going to play school) they encourage only fresh fruits and vegetables for snack time. So only very rare that they take biscuits otherwise it is apples , carrots etc..And if it is practised in all schools sure children will be healthy. And should appreciate and encourage the kids who eats healthy food so that it inspires other kids also.

Yeah, recently the govt has implemented stringent rules to avoid junk food in schools and as such the schools have started suggesting parents to maintain healthy menu with highly nutrious stuff for children.

i think I would say YES to your question. Since I was still in my elementary years, our school has already banned us from eating junkfoods. In fact there are no junkfoods sold in the canteen, even softdrinks. We were told that it's bad for children and it's not good for one's health. Hence, if it was banned in our school, it must also be banned nowadays because for this generation, there are already a lot of unhealthy foods coming in the market. :)

Yes, I think that junk food should be banned during school. However, I think schools should also take a look at their menus. The food that they supply kids with some days is completly inadequate and I myself would not eat it. Fortunately in our school there is a salad bar which offers kids the option of making something fresh, but on that bar is pepperoni slices, high fat dressings, fruit in heavy syrup, and other not so great choices. What are we doing?

Yes I do think it should be banned from schools. I really don't even understand that it hasn't been already. Junk food has never been avalible in danish schools and I don't think the children miss it.
