Have you ever claimed injury compensation?

Many years ago I claimed compensation for slipping on some oil spilled on a garage floor after I brought a coach back to the depot. I was carrying some gear which I had found left by one of my passengers and I fell on my elbow. I received the princely sum of £260 which in those days was probably 3/4 weeks wages. I still get a little trouble from that elbow to this day. We here in the UK seem to be going through a period of claiming compensation for just about everything and if it is injury I question the money received as once you have been paid theres no going back if problems arise in the future. But it keeps the lawyers rich I suppose.....!!

Luckily I have never had the need to. My Auntie did cliam once though - she tripped and fell in a pot-hole in the road, and broke her ankle, and sued the Council for a pretty penny. I don't think I'd have the energy to fight my way though all the red-tape, and bureaucracy though, to be honest. I'm too lazy for that - LOL!

I suppose its all according to the extent of the injury Rosie. With mine it was the indignity of falling and getting my nice blazer dirtied up with oil but they did supply me with a new one which was part of the uniform anyway! Thanks for the reply.

When I was 17 yrs old I was knocked off my motorcylcle but a motorist who opened his car door without looking. As I was considered a minor, my dad claimed for my injuries and any other expenses that were involved. I received £550 pounds which was about half the cost of modest house in those days. I was told that I could claim again if I wasn't satisfied, as soon as I reached the age of 21 yrs. I preferred to forget about the whole embarrasing situation.

My frined when and claimed criminal injurys. Some guy attacked his mate and they both legged it, the guy (a stranger) threw a bottle after them intended for his pal and hit him on the back of the head. He has a big scar on the back of his head and scars on his knee and he got back about £1000 but it took almost two years to go through.

I used to work as a first aid attendant on a construction site in Canada and we frequently had injuries on the job. It was my job not only to patch the person up, but to keep careful records of everything so I could answer questions about the incident if they did file for compensation. We had several guys file and only one didn´t get paid, because his claim was bogus. (he bruised his fingertip and took three weeks off work).
