i've been reading jokes, etc. here at mylot, jokes that i've read in the internet years ago, and even saw that some of the memebrs were praising them as "original." i was just wondering, because i believe that jokes (tips or whatever) copied from somewhere else shouldn't be posted here. if they really wanted to share it, couldn't they at least name the source, or paraphrase it? please clarify me on this. thanks. : )

Yes, it is against the rules to plagerize anothers material as well as being a crime. The source needs to be disclosed if it isn't your own material. As for jokes, often no one knows where they come from. I believe that jokes and responses to jokes will be removed as they are not pertinent discussions. I agree also with you that if you don't have a source, than at least paraphrase the material in question. Use of your own words and thoughts is always best. JMHO. Welcome to myLot and happy posting.

Copying and pasting is not wrong as long as it is relevant to the discussion and is done in a logical manner. It is better if credit is given to the original source. But jokes are universal and is shared by way of gossip and you might hear the same joke over and over again. When someone hears a joke for the first time it is original. For another person it may not be original.

It is a crime if you do not post the original author when doing a copy and paste. It is called plagerism and you can be sued for it. (I am not talking about jokes, but other copy and pasted material from the internet.) You must site the source, website or author when copy and pasting.
