When am 21 I am planning on having laser eye surgery. How do they keep your eyes open? Does the surgery hurt?

When I was in nursing school oh so many years ago - I assisted at a cataracts surgery. While not a laser surgery, the process of keeping the eye open is probably the same. They had an instrument that spread open the eyelids and held them that way. The patient was awake and aware of what was going on, but a LARGE needle was inserted above his eyelid which numbed the nerves to the eye so that particular eye was paralized, did not tear up, could not see, for the duration of the surgery. Watching this happen made me a bit more apprehensive to ever have eye surgery done myself. Best of success with your surgery, though!

I am sorry, I really do not know much about laser surgery. I may have to rethink my stance on eye surgery in the future as my eyes are worsening. Perhaps there is an eye surgery place that keeps a website with all the important answers.
