Why are the used games so expensive?

Once in awhile I will look at the used games at places like EB Games or Games Stop thinking I might get a bargfain on a used game. Ussually the games are barely cheaper than the new ones. Why would I pay $35 for a $40 game without the original box and wrinled up manual when for $5 more I could get a brand new nice looking game? The only games that are cheap are the ones nobody would want anymore. If the same game was like $20 I would leave with one every time. Instead I buy my games new at the big stores for less money.

lol...thats true, I haven't really ever brought used games because I always feel uneasy about the condition and quality of those games. Obviously you wouldn't expect them to be in top condition! lol, but that's just my thought. To tell you the truth, I would really like to know the same thing and also what is it with those trade in condiions?? For example, I saw FFXII in a catalogue, and I saw on the side that you have to trade in "4" PS2, Xbox or Wii games TO BE ABLE TO buy the game for $29.99?? I'm not sure about other people, but to me that's just ridiculous... I'm actually considering buying games from Ebay, but again - I'm still a little suspicious about the condition of them since the sellers don't really offer clear and descriptive details on the condition of their games/products in advance. But all in all, I think if the used games are priced so high like you said, then you're best option would be to just buy a brand new one - at least you'll go without all the damages AND you also get a manual! lol

Have you tried ebay? People do sell games there. I think if you can find it there, chances are high that it would be much cheaper.

Sometimes, those game aren't the best of quality, I will agree with you. However, with the prices as high as they are, a $5-$10 savings per game allows me the savings necessary to purchase an additional game after 5 or 6 purchases. At the same time, when you shop at places like Game Stop or EB, they offer savings programs or promotions that sweeten the deal. For instance, they have lots of promotions when they offer a "buy 2, get 1 free" or something to that effect. The prices themselves sometimes has to do with the popularity of the game based on their available stock. For instance, Madden 07 is still fairly expensive now, but once everyone sells them back for copies of '08, then the price will drop. Or if they have 10 Elder Scrolls IV instead of 3, then the price might drop a couple of bucks as well. They usually have the original box and manual now because most times you don't get full value on your trade-in or sale without having all of that included in the game. I alway make sure those are the games i buy. there is a definitive advantage to purchasing used games, but there's nothing wrong if you prefer new ones...
