Rating People On MyLot

What things do you consider when you rate a person on myLot? I try to be encouraging unless I think the question is just a silly thing made up to earn another few pennies on myLot. I never rate a person down simply because their view is different from mine, unless they are rude and vulgar in their reply. My responses to discussions are usually well thought out and honest whether I agree or disagree with the person who started the discussion. I never give one or two word answers, because I don't think that takes any thought at all. I don't think it is fair when someone has worked hard to get a 9 or 10 rating and then have someone who doesn't agree with them bring it down with poor ratings. Have any of you ever had that happen to them?

I rate everyone with a + unless the response is not on topic or if the response is one word. I have only given a few - and they were caused by not having anything to do with the discussion. I have done 3 or 4 ! because they were spams. The best response is sometimes the hardest and I still have many that I need to give a best response to.

After reading your post I sat and thought about how many negatives I have given in discussions. I suppose I have given closer to, but not over 10 negatives. I guess it would be more if I was on here participating in every discussion, but I don't, because I am guilty of being more nosey. :-) I read a lot of discussions but do not respond. I have learned quite a bit about the diversity on mylot by doing so.

I really hate the ones that are just trying to spam you. I have trouble with best response also because sometimes there are several that are very good and it is difficult to choose between them.

Okay I have answered this one once before and seemed to upset many, but I am honest and shoot straight from my hip, so to speak. :-) If I am reading a discussion and there many one to three word responses, then I feel as though there is no discussion being made. Simply stating "I agree" but not offering any reasoning or support for your statement will normally receive a "-" from me as I don't feel as though anything was added to the discussion. In fact, that's my general view on those kinds of remarks. If I don't agree with someone, I will respond to them and see how much more information or understanding I can obtain from them. They always get a "+" becasue 9 times out of 10, they will definitely respond to further discuss their opinions. :-) So, to summarize, if the response isn't more than five words, it usually will receive a '-' from me, especially if it is the infamous "I agree with you". Well thought out responses will receive a plus. I do not know if I have had anyone mark me with a minus and I would not care if they did, but to do so because they disagree with me would definitely bother me, as I am sure that is not what the rating system is in place for.

That's what I like to see; someone with a mind of their own. I really don't care if they mark me down either, because I usually feel good about the response I have made. If they disagree with it, that is their problem, but I do try to be tactful in my answers. Thanks for your response.

I dont know if thats happened to me or not, but I do always make sure to give a positive rating for comments that I receive that are relative to my discussion and more than 1 sentence.. so I guess I rate when I know someone put thought into what they typed to me.

I really hate the one-sentence responses. One word ones, like yes, or no, are even worse. I think when there are lots of responses, we sometimes tend to forget what the original topic was and respond instead to some of the answers.

This should be the case as this is a forum. Not everyone shares the same point f view on certain topics. It's nice to have found someone with the same train of thought here. I also respond in a spontaneous way based on what I think and feel about the discussion started.

You are right about people having different views. I hate it though when they try to belittle my view and point out how much better theirs is. I don't mind them stating their view though.
