When your dog/cat dies will you get another or do you feel like I do?

As much as I love my pets (and the rewards have been plentiful), when my three pets die, I want to finally have a home free of pet hair, no litter boxes to clean daily, no getting up at 6 am to let the dog out, no making the animals their breakfast before I eat, no expensive bills for vaccines, surgeries, teeth cleaning, food, medication, toys and leashes, litter, food... etc. I'm a sucker for anything with fur on it, but how many of you feel like "enough is enough". I just hope some stray needing a home doesn't FIND me! lol

i used to have a pomenarian puppy... she is so cute and adorable... but at the end, my mum sell it because nobody take care of her anymore as it is very inconvenient if all of us want to go overseas and she has to stay at home by herself with nobody to feed her and take care of her... so, for the time being, i think i will not get a pet yet as we are not ready for the commitment yet...

I said that with our last cats and dog. I said they were our last. I liked the idea of being able to go away on holidays to wear black and not walk around in animal fur, but quite frankly we couldn't do it. Literally, after we had one of our two cats put down, two days later we were buying to more kittens from a shelter. I really didn't want to go that day, but I was dragged along "just for a look", needless to say I feel in love with one. The next thing I knew we had two in a carrier coming home with us. A couple of weeks later our dog was put down. Not wanting a dog lasted a couple of weeks for me. I'd see all these people walking there dogs. I'd go for a walk around our local lake and it just seemed wrong without walking a dog. Needless to say we went looking, didn't find what we wanted, or atleast thought we wanted. Then out of the blue a couple of months later we fell in love with a dog. The rest they say is history - 4 cats (the second two being stray bothers needing a home) and 1 dog later among our other pets. Today although it's a pile of work and sometimes I think I don't really have the time for it, but I really couldn't imagine it any other way. The loyalist companions a person can have. I don't think I'd ever be able to have it any other way after having pets virtually all my life.

i really dont mind about that. its a matter of fact, usually when our pets die, out of coincidence, we end up having another pet. i guess we like them a lot and really used doing all those things to make the dog feel at home and being responsible for him/her.

I love you! - white kitten
Oh no! I rather do all of that than have a home without a pet. The emptiness, the lonrliness of not having a waving tail come to you a you enter the house. The sounds and warmth of a small body next to you in bed (besides your mate - LOL)curled in a ball or stretched out. The gifts brought to you half mangeled and the sound of its voice as 5 pm comes around and you know it wants its dinner! How could you not miss all that?

I already have. Getting another pet helps deal with pain. There isn't any one person on the face of this earth who is as loyal and trusting as a pet and to me,that' s well worth the inconvenience of the pet hair, vaccines, etc.

I hear you! the cat hairs, oh *cough* but then having a cat around is useful, she is a great mouser - works a lot better than those traps we have purchased or the electronic device we plugged into the wall. And, her purrs are pleasurable. The dogs, they don't shed - but they require frequent grooming, they do not eat much, but they do need to be taken out frequently - hmmm, but that does give me some needed exercise. Plus, they alert us if something is amiss and also provide a good service of foot warmer in the winter months. I don't know, sometimes I feel like the pets are a hindrance, especially if I want to go traveling away from home for a bit . But I really do not know if I would be as happy without them. Time will tell.

I know -time will tell for me too. I want to redecorate the house, but really shouldn't do it while we have an aging dog and might have an accident on the brand new carpet in a few years!

I know what you mean. I've felt the same way sometimes in the past, but then after awhile, I always end up missing having the pets around and I get another one anyway.

I can't imagine my life without pets. While it is true you can replace your dear departed pet, I always have room for another to love.

I've had pets my whole life and the one short time when I was petless was awful. I don't believe in replacing a pet but certainly opening your heart to another furchild when the time is right is definately not a bad thing. I can relate to the bad side of having pets (litter boxes, dog doo etc.) But personally all the good far outweighs the bad.
