Are you involved with a charity? If so which one?

I do some volunteer work for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and participate yearly in one of their fundraising events called Light the Night. I got involved with them two years ago after reading about a little baby from Texas named Allie who lost her fight with AML, a form of Leukemia, at the age of 8 months 27 days. I am curious what kinds of charity work other people on mylot may be involved with, and what is your reason for being involved.

Good for you Jen, It's wonderful that you are involved with such a great charity. It really breaks my heart when I hear of children with such illnesses. Cancer is devistating at any age but for some reason it seems even worse when we hear of children suffering from such illnesses. My dream would be to win a lotto and be able to financially help children in need. Childrens charities seem to be my soft spot. Every year I support missing children, childrens emergency foundation (its an organization that provides breakfast and lunch programs through schools) and of course I donate to my sons schools breakfast program. I also Donate money to the stollery childrens hospital (its the closest one to my town) and I volunteer locally for an organization called "midwest family connections". They are a non profit organization that provides our community with support for children with all types of challenges. I learned of them when my son was diagnosed with a sever speech delay. They provided, free of charge, resources for my son as well as me and hubby. They worked with him in terms of his speech and they provided me with materials and paid for me to attend workshops so I could help my son communicate better while waiting to get him into speech therapy. Now my son speaks vey well but I still volunteer when needed....its so rewarding to volunteer your time.

Becoming a volunteer gives you an opportunity to learn new skills and is a valuable and rewarding experience. For those wanting work experience before going back to full time work
