There is alot of confusion as to which substrate you should use when housing a Bearded Dragon. Personally, I use newspaper and I have heard stories of other substrates causing impactation in the reptiles, due to the fact that they are unable to digest it, therefore it clogs up their stomachs and will eventually kill them.

Newspaper is a pain in the but. You have to change it all the time. I use Crushed walnut shells or Calci-sand. Neither causes the dragon to be impacted. You can buy them at the pet store. Calci sand is a little expencive 10$ for a 5 lb bag. The walnut shells are cheaper and work the same. They also smell good! I can get a 20lb bag fo 12$.
