Does Distance Really Matter in a Relationship?

l wonder sometimes if you have a dear one 1000miles away from you,does that make you loose interest in the relationship? or make the relationship stronger.What do you Think?

I've only had 1 long distance relationship and it was the seperation that killed it. We had been together for 3 years when my girlfriend moved away for her final year of university. We talked on the phone a lot and I visited a couple of times but the distance and lack of real contact drove a wedge between us.
