Favourite bread recipes

I love making unusual bread recipes, today we are having ryebread with leeks and crushed pepper in the mix, we will probably have that with bacon and tomatoes for lunch today. Last week I made saffron and raisen bread, and the week before that chilli and smoked pepper bread. What bread recipes do you like that are a little bit different?

Have you ever had an amish friendship bread? I had somebody give one to me the other day. Its a wonderful idea & I cant wait to make up the batch that I give to my friends.

No I havent, what is in that one? I'm not very familiar with breads from America, mostly its the Europ[ean varieties that I see the most of so its alwys interesting to have some new ideas.

Here is the Amish Friendship Bread recipe. Amish Friendship Bread Important Note: Don't use metal spoons or equipment. Do not refrigerate. Use only glazed ceramic or plastic bowls or containers. 1 cup live yeast starter (see above) Day 1: Do nothing with the starter. Days 2-5: Stir with a wooden spoon. Day 6: Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk. Stir with a wooden spoon. Days 7-9: Stir with a wooden spoon. Day 10: Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Stir. Take out 3 cups and place 1 cup each into three separate plastic containers. Give one cup and a copy of this recipe to three friends. To the balance (a little over one cup) of the batter, add the following ingredients and mix well. 1 cup oil 1/2 cup milk 3 eggs 1 tsp vanilla In a separate bowl combine the following dry ingredients and mix well: 2 cups flour 1 cup sugar 1-1/2 tsp baking powder 2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup nuts 1 - (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Mix and pour into two well greased and sugared bread pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.

Blueberry Cheese Rolls Ingredients: 1 pkg. (8 oz.) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls 4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened 2 Tbsp. sugar 1/2 cup blueberries, divided Directions: PREHEAT oven to 375ºF. Unroll dough into four rectangles; firmly press perforations together to seal. COMBINE Cream cheese and sugar; spread onto dough rectangles to within 1/2 inch of edges. Top evenly with blueberries. Bring opposite corners of rectangles together; press together to seal. Place on ungreased baking sheet. BAKE 11 to 13 min. or until golden brown. Substitutions: Substitute 1/2 cup chopped red or green apples and 2 Tbsp. raisins for the blueberries. Substitute Neufchatel Cheese for Cream Cheese.

Another favorite of mine ~ Banana Bread My Favorite Banana Bread 3 tsp shortening 1/3 cup sugar 1 egg 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 2/3 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/8 tsp salt 1/2 cup mashed banana (1 large) 3 tbsp chopped walnuts (optional) Combine shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, add to creamed mixture alternately with banana. Fold in walnuts, if desired. Transfer to loaf pan sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Bake at 325 for 50-55 minutes or until toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to wire rack to cool. 303 calories 14 grams of fat

Maple Whole Wheat Bread INGREDIENTS 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour 1/2 cup bread flour 1/3 teaspoon salt 1 1/4 cups water 4 tablespoons maple syrup 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast DIRECTIONS Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select wheat bread cycle; press Start. Amish Bread INGREDIENTS 2 3/4 cups bread flour 1/4 cup canola oil 1 teaspoon active dry yeast 1/4 cup white sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 18 tablespoons warm water DIRECTIONS Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select White Bread cycle; press Start. When the dough has raised once and second cycle of kneading begins, turn machine off. Reset by pressing Start once again. This gives the dough two full raising cycles before the final raising cycle prior to baking.
