The most common medicines for treating an attack are painkillers such as aspirin or paracetamol. Some medicines also have an anti-sickness ingredient, or this can be taken separately. If over-the-counter treatments do not help there are medicines available on prescription, which are specifically for migraine. These acute treatments, known as triptans, work in a similar way to a naturally occurring brain chemical called serotonin which is in short supply during a migraine attack. They are available in a range of formulations, such as tablets, injections and a nasal spray. Preventive treatments, in the form of tablets taken every day, may be given to patients experiencing four or more migraine attacks per month.

migraines are a lot of times familial, my whole family gets them, our son is on daily medication (3 types) and still gets some break through migraines. One thing you have to be careful of if medicating is what is called rebound headaches, so you may need to switch out medications (with doctor approval) If your diet and health can tolerate it Caffeine helps to ward off the headaches. When you feel one coming on but it is not full blown down a mountain dew, or take the excederin migraine tabs (there is also an equate of the same) which combines asprin with caffeine. The migraines are a throw back, people who suffer them are more accutely aware of their surroundings - something like your vasals dialate and that is what causes the migraine to happen. During primative times this was a help in survival.

I get them a lot myself. I was taking immetrx but not I am trying Fioricet. my family doctor put me on them last week so far they have helped me a little better then immetrex. I just hope it lasts. Of course with me having multiple sclrosis it happens quite often. I have been getting migranes myself since I was a teenager.

I get them once or twice a year. I get them so bad they keep in bed for close to one or two days. If I start noticing the symptoms before and I start medicating myself with Motrin or Ibprofin then I will be o.k. If not, I will start to get light-headed, a headache, a stomach-ache, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, etc.

I get migraines fairly often. If I notice one coming on, I drink a lot of caffeine and take tylenol usually. I don't take aspirin because my dad has a problem with it that could very well be genetic. I don't really want to find out. Usually a couple mountain dews and tylenol help a lot. My head will still hurt but not nearly as bad. I don't know what I would do if I had a full blown migraine now. When I feel one coming on, I try to lay down and maybe get some sleep. I will put my son in his crib and lay in his room with him if he isn't ready for a nap. I put a movie on quietly for him and put a wet wash cloth over my eyes. I tell him "shhh. Mommy's going to night night okay?" And he will usually go along with it for about 30-45 minutes. Sometimes he even falls asleep and takes his nap then too. If he doesn't take his nap, he will eventually wake me up by yelling "Mommy! No more ni ni! Elliott's hungry!" so then I have to get up. I'm just glad I have a baby that understands so well and can speak, so he doesn't have to cry when he needs something. The first few migraines I had after he was born were horrible!

i do get migranes and what i always do is just stay home at my bed. when my head aches i don't want to hear any noise and see light, so what i do aside from taking medicine is just sleep. i also ask somebody, most often my mom, to massage my head until i get to sleep.

Word-of-mouth is fueling the latest weight loss craze, not to mention thousands of email spams. Hoodia has lots of hoopla, but little science. Experts familiar with it say hoodia tricks your brain into thinking you're full. But they acknowledge that published, scientific studies proving hoodia works long-term are sparse.
