I must say, it took my 4 years to read a book once lol. I am realyl bad at reading and taking in paragraphes so i would have to constantly re-read them till i proccesed the words, i eventually finished it and i found the more i tired to read the better i am getting at it. I still struggle but im alot better than i used to be :) I managed to finish my last book in under 3 months!

I am already a natural speed reader but I have noticed my eyes seem to skim certain words that do not carry much weight when reading a book. example, the, if and, but. etc.

Well I think If you are intrested in the book you will automatically read it faster. It depends upon your interest and vocabulary. Boring topics and boring contents cause us to read slow. I, however, think that fast reading may not be equiavalent to slow but meaningful reading which creates and leaves a certain impact and an everlasting impression on the reader.

I suppose it's best if you have a strong vocabulary. So when you read, you won't have to ponder the meaning of certain words and you can keep going on and on and on... Something like what ciaosamson said.

I like to read my books slowly, actually, so that I understand what I'm reading and also not get lost somewhere in the middle of the story. Sometimes, I read blindly and then I realize that I was not absorbing what I was reading, then I had to turn back the pages and read again. I don't like to read a book as fast as possible. I only read fast when the book is really easy to read and extremely interesting. But, if it's a classic with many difficult words, then I'll read slowly and meticulously so that I understand everything. I also get to enjoy the book more by reading slowly. Anyway, I don't like to skip lines or pages too. No matter how boring they are, I still try to read everything! And it does not matter if it takes me weeks or months to finish it.

I also take a long time to finish the book i read, most of the timw. I do not like to read fast if i read fiction book.I think they're written for us to enjoy the pleasure of reading. But if i read non-fiction usually i read it fast while jot down some important notes at the end of the pages. I read from one of the website, cannot remember the address. But it said something like this. To read faster,u have to read the summary, so you can expect what from the books.Plus some will recommend you to use your finger to read. I mean you point every single word you read. MAybe you can try.:)

keep in mind that you have to be good at reading comprehension if you want to read books fast. That way you won't have to go back to the pages you've already read because there's something you didn't understand. What materials are you reading? If it's a book like Da Vinci Code it took me about 10 hours. Just can't put a good book down. If it's a Philo article, for example, it is advisable that you read it over and over and over again.
