how do i know if i will be a good step parent?

that's my friend's question most of time during our conversation.her boyfriend has two wonderful children but then my friend still love and adore him very much.she is just worried if when they get married things will spiral out of control with them.if anyone has had this problem or something that close to it help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!

I remember one line in the movie "intersection". The mistress there of Richard Gere said to his daughter as the daughter wont smile at her--"this is not a contest, no one can replace your mother."
To be a step monther, I guess the first rule to remember is dont push to hard for the kids to like you or your frien right away.
Whenever she's with her boyfriend and his kids, try to avoid being overly sweet but instead, take more time speaking with the children.
Know their likes and dislikes and express her opinion without hurting them.
Suggest some recreational activity and find them simple yet valuable gifts for the children.
Just stay cool, loving, friendly and gentle enough. Remember, no one can replace their mom.
