Would you pay something for somebody else on your employee card?

Many companies offer employees discounts on their products. My uncle used to work for a flooring company. He could get great rates on anything related to floors, tile, linoleum, carpeting, etc. He was entitled to purchase once a year anything he wanted at the discount price. Of course there were many years that he did not need to purchase anything so when someone in the family needed something he would purchase for them in his name and they would pay him for what they bought at the discount price. There are two ways of looking at this 1 - he was doing a nice thing for a family member who did not have to pay full rate and thus get some new flooring that they may not have afforded otherwise. or 2 - it was wrong to do because he was lying to the company pretending it was for him. Even though he could purchase for himself once a year. If it is your right to purchase at a discount and you don't use it for yourself do you feel you can let someone else benefit from it or not?

Yes I do think that I would as it is not wrong really If he does it to help Family why not Many People do it, my Friend did it for me last Year. There is no reason not to as at the end of the Day he is helping out and does not go over the top with it I admire him for doing that

I think it is perfectly fine. Companies must know that family and freinds will use the discount, and most of the time you find that freinds discounts means they get somethings from that shop instead of somewhere else, so the usually make a profit from it anyway. A freinds dicount basically enourages then to shop their instead elsewhere, just like any coupon or voucher... Even at a discounted price, there is always a profit margin, be it just abit smaller. And yes, if my work gave discounts, i would most certianly offer it to my freinds.

I think the company got their $$ and knew that it was going on. Probably every one did it. They still made $$, just less of a profit margin, they made a sale & kept the crews on a job. Heck, I have one of those discount cards at a bookstore & they watch as I give the card to a friend to use. Its not like I'm going down the row & letting everyone else use it, so they make a little less profit, they are still making a profit.

Hmm... I don't think your uncle is doing anything wrong. I know this is a common enough thing happening (at least in Singapore) and I've known people on both sides. Why, if you ask me, I don't mind buying it for someone, or having someone buy it for me if he's willing! :P
