My black lab, Ruby, has one main meal a day at 5pm (plus or minus 30 seconds!!) plus a token nibble at breakfast and lunch when we have something to eat. I took her to the vets the other day and she has lost a kilo in a month by putting her on a 'light' dog food instead of her old 'puppy' variety. Same volume but less input, if you know what I mean. Ruby is at my feet right now and she is now 17 months old and simply gorgeous!!

When feeding your dogs, you should always make sure that you are feeding your dogs a high HIGH quality food where the first 3 ingredients are meat, and that there is plenty of fruits and veggies in the ingredients, as well. I only feed my miniature pinscher 2 meals a day of high quality food, and he gets half a can a day in his kong toy as a treat. We have not had any problem with weight gain since we do a lot of activities. He's so active, I don't think he could gain a lot of weight!!!

My dogs get fed twice a day, then they get dog treats after their walks and carrots when I go in the kitchen. If youo exercise them enough, weight gain should not be a problem.
