Do any of you remember Party Line phones? If you don't know, they are phones that are connected to more than one house (like 3). They were used in houses that were far aprt to connect everyone with a out going line. Each house would have a different ring. They lived in Kentucky. My grandmother had one. She was the 3rd house on the list. She would yell at me to answer the phone because I couldn't remember what the ring sounded like. It was the most confusing phone.

I do remember the party line. Our neighbor usually hogs the phone for a significant amount of time and my mom couldn't use the phone for important calls. They almost even got into a fight. Those were the days...

I can remember the fighting too. My Grandma didn't have anyone important to call so I think it was easier. Plus getting upset would have been a waste of time. The closest house was 1/2 mile or more down the road. Thank You for sharing. You get a + too.

I was born and raised in Alexandria, VA and there was no such thing there. I lived in Alexandria in the 70s. However, when we went to visit my daddy's sister in a rural area of Virginia, she HAD a party line. And they had those party lines there for most of the 80s. I remember I lived with her for a bit in the 80s and how aggrivating that darn thing was---having to wait to make a call because whomever down the street was having a MARATHON conversation and then the SECOND I picked up the phone to dial whom I wanted to talk to, the marathoners were back on the line 'aren't you done yet??' Used to make me so mad.... How I live in rural West Virginia and was told recently that up until about 5 years ago, MANY people back here STILL had those party lines...uuuggghhh Thankfully they aren't here anymore. But aren't they a conversation piece LOL
