proofreading and copy editing

I have often thought that learning proofreadin/copy editing would be helpful to me. As an aspiring writer it would help me polish up my own work and give me another way of earning some money. I have listed these two courses to see what people's opinions are. I am aware many on line offers are not what they seem adn don't give the real level of learning or qualification required. Is this a good field to study and what are the best ways of learning the trrade and getting into the industry, I think for any writer having as many tricks up your sleeve is the best way to go. www.learningcurve-uk.com/proofreading.htm www.chapterhousepublishing.co.uk

it is home study courses in proofreading. I believe they do offer help in finding work and doing it professionally. What i am concerned about is if they are ones worth investing in or if anyone has a better way to gain these skills and put them into practice. I dont want to pay out a load of money and then find i dont learn anything i couldn't have simply done myself

If you're a writer, becoming an editor can only help you. I'm an English major concentrating in professional writing and editing and creative writing. Knowing how to edit has made my writing better and knowing how to write has made my editing better. It's a good idea to study editing, and there are many job opportunities in the field, especially if you are willing to relocate to larger cities. Also, most newspapers have more than one editor or assistant editors. The jobs are there, and if you like to read and like words, I think you'll be happy with editing.
