The Walter Reed Army Medical Center has recently been a topice of conversation leading many news headlines. The sub-standard facilities and care have been brought to the attention of many news watchers and readers. It is truly an unfortunate statement for the care that our government provides those that risk their lives for the freedom that many of us often take for granted. What's worse... this has been going on for years. If you were to speak with many vets, they could tell you how treatment and care has been poor, to say the least, for years. Veterans are often times put off, or flat out denied care for years. It appears that the Department of Veterans Affairs will drag out a claim until the person filing the clain gets tired and fed up, or dies. Once you active duty committment is up, you're forgotten and put out to pasture. Sure, things are great when on active duty and in the forefront. Many will even call you a hero. Once you leave the service, to those in VA administration, you're a bother. Ask not what you can do for your country, but how quickly you are forgotten!

You are right because this is something that has been going on for years. I had a doctor friend years ago who had no use for military medical services. He always said you get what you pay for and when you pay nothing that is what you get. I think it is disgraceful that we are sending our young men and women into harm's way to be killed or maimed only to be treated so poorly when they come home.

Thank you jillmalitz. Until we bring this problem to the attention of everyone, nothing will change.
