Hi, I'm wondering what methods you use to keep your dog from getting pregnant when she comes into heat. Short of putting her in a "chastity diaper" and locking her up, I try to be with her when she goes out and "police" the contact she has with the male dog on the property.LOL I'm interested in any ideas or funny anecdotes you might have. Thanks for responding.

i've never even seen an unspayed female dog, so i have no idea. Are you planning on breeding her? If not i'd just spay her cuz its a lot easier to deal with in the long run.

If you don't intend to breed her, you really should get her spayed. Intact male dogs can smell a female in heat for quite some distance. Even with you outside with her, it's quite possible a male will get in your yard & mate with her. Dogs really don't care about privacy.

I think if the female dog is not intended to be bred and you only want her as your pet, you should consider spaying her, this also will also benefit her because generally, spayed/neutered dogs have longer life. Otherwise, you should lock her up during her hea period, especially after 9 or 10 days from the day it started...
