Is it true Europeans don't travel to Australia because it is too far away? Any other countries in on this?

it is certainly a long flight for a European to get to Australia. For example, from England i can be in New York in 5 hours, but it takes almost 36 hours to get to Sydney blessed be

Yes it is a long way. I've done it twice now. Have a friend in Ireland who says the same as you and I doubt she will venture to the lucky country.

Yes of course it is true. I live in the UK and I think I would more likely go to Europe than Australia. Europe has a lot to offer and such a variety of places whereby ifi you haven't been to Australia then you are very unlikely to want ot travel there. They do so many stop off and stop in countries like Dubai and Singapore which are not very appealing to the majority of the people in the UK. I could myself to Spain in about 2 hours (I'm in North UK - Scotland) which has all the sun I could possibly want. The furtherest I have been is the west coast of Canada and I would really have to think about going on a 10 hour flight again. My sister and loads of the rest of my family are in Australia and she is always asking me to come out but the flight puts me off.

I haven't stopped off in Dubai but Singapore has great shopping so you could stop over for a few days, get rid of some jet lag and continue on. Than you have to come for more than a month to make it worthwhile.

Hong Kong is kewl, well it's hot really. The pilots have to do the checkerboard landing (it may have changed am not sure) where they fly in between high rise buildings to get to the runway. They're very good at it.

Europeans have the distinct advantage of having a multitude of other countries and other cultures within easy access; and at reasonable prices too! The freedom to travel within EU countries without a visa is also a definite plus. I am in India at the moment and even here they are of the opinion that Australia is way too far away! But as all us Aussies know, it is well worth the time on a plane!

And when you leave Australian shores you really do leave your backyard! I think we're more adventurous than most, what do you think?

i don't agree with this..but then i am not from europe.. i am from israel..you know the little country that is near all of those european countries..lol anyway here in israel it is very clear to us that we all would go traveling to australia..yep sounds strange but that's how it is almost every israeli i know worked very hard to make the 1500$ for the plane ticket and did get on that plane..for 20 and somtimes 21 hours. it all depends on how people thing. here in israel the distance issue does not scare us. i too was in australia..almost lost my mind in the 21 hours flight there but enjoyed very much. by the way i love melbourne:)

Melbourne is kewl yes! I was so pleased I ended up flying part of the leg with an airlines who have those computer/play stations behind all the seats. That helps with the boredom. The Europeans must be sissies, whatya think!!
