What is the root of poverty ??

Some says that money is the root of all evil. some says its the lack of money. How about the cause of poverty? i ask an old folk about it, He said its the money. A kid told me its laziness. Actually this question is just a serious joke from my friends if we dont have anything to talk about when were together. Aside from religion, i think this is more political side. Can anybody give an answer so i can give justice to this question. Thanks !
