Dreams as a Creative Tool

Sometimes I do my best thinking when asleep. As a writer I can take a subject I am stuck on, go to sleep, and have the answer in the morning. Has anyone else been inspired by their dreams during sleep to create something? I know Wes Craven tells of dreams helping to create the Nightmare on Elm street series... I wonder if we can hone this skill and use it more proficeintly
