When to order my gown?

I'm the Matron of Honor in a wedding on May 1st and kinda need to know what the timeframe is on ordering a gown. I know time is short, but it's gonna be 3 wks before I can oder...need to know from others experiences if that's gonna be enough time...come on ladies...let me know your thoughts on it...please
