If you go to associatedcontent.com you can read a whole bunch of articles about St. Patrick's Day. There are some on the history of the holiday, on celebrations in many cities, what to eat and drink, and more. How do you celebrate?

I have a little trouble realizing why we, in the United States, should celebrate a holiday from some other country. I guess we do kind of celebrate others, like Cinco de Mayo but that is mainly just the Latinos who keep that one. Valentine's Day has appealed to citizens of the United States since it seems to be romantic, but we don't think of it as a celebration from another country. We accept that St. Patrick's day is Irish though, so I am still wondering, why do we celebrate it with parties, the wearing of the green, etc.

It's got something to do with the fact that this country is a melting pot. Most of us wouldn't be here if our ancestors hadn't immigrated here. One of the best things about this country is the freedom to speak, celebrate and worship in as many different ways as we want. We are also free to not speak, celebrate or worship at all, except when we're sworn to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
