Madonna does actually donate to charity quite often. All the profits from her book series, "The English Roses" were given to orphanages. She does donate to causes in Africa, as well. Most likely, I would assume, she adopted a child in part for the media attention, but also for more personal reasons. I have thought about adopting a child from a Third World nation, as well. By benefiting one child, you can help others. Not only because it's possible the child will remember what they went through before, but that they will also feel a desire to help just as they were helped.
