Search engine can be described in several ways. 1. It is a program which acts as a card catalog for the internate. It attempts to index and locate desired information by searching for keywords in which a user specifics. The method for finding this information is usually done by maintaining indices of web resources that can be queried for the keyword entered by the user. OR It is a software that enables users to search the internate using keywords. OR more correctly we can say, it is a searchable online database of internate resources. It has several components such as engine software, spider software, an index(database), and a relevancy alogorithm. The search sofware consists of a server or collection of servers dedicated to indexing internate web pages, storing the result and returning lists of pages to match user queries. The spidering software constantly crawls the web collecting web page data for the index. Yahoo is the largest serch engine.
