We have 4 cats.. each carries themselves differently. Dory and Itty, American Shorthairs always walk with their tail straight up in the air, proudly displaying it. Nemo and Meeca are different.. Meeca's tail kind of hovers mid air while Nemo drags his big fluffy tail and swishes it around alot. Have you ever noticed how your cat carries their tail? What does it mean?

There is a lot of literature about the language of a cat's tail. When they walk with it straight up, they are confident. If they have it straight up and the end twitches quickly, they are very excited. The cat's with the lower tails may be the submissive ones.

Both of my cats tend to walk with there tails strait out even with there bodies unless one of us walks up to them and start talking to them to pet them, then there tails go strait up. I think it is a way of them acknowledging to us that they hear us and are accepting and enjoying the attention.

bushy tails - Baby Dirt's angry so her tail is growing!
She walks with her tail swinging.. When she's mad her tail bushes out, sooo big! I have no idea why she carries her tail the way she does, but I can definitely tell when she's scared or mad..When she's mad her hair stands UP and her tail is bushed. When she's scared her hair stands UP and her tail is up.

It's usual a sign of authority when you have multiple cats. Just to show who is boss.
