Profanity on regular TV networks -- Has it gone too far?

I can understand about watching movies too pay when seeing them on the Theater. I can understand about ordering HBO or Cinemax -- But on regular TV shows -- Have you notice that profanity has gone a little too far? Like taking the Lord's name in vain? Using the B word or SOB? How do you deal with it and what about those that have kids around? Are the ratings just a big joke?

it has gone way way too far. i don't allow my kids to view the regular TV, even local television shows here in the philippines are not very "kid friendly" instead I just buy VCD/DVDs for them to watch, shows like blues clues, dora the explorer, Hi5 & other cartoons that are appropriate for their age.

I don't mind the swearing as long as it's in adult type setting shows. I don't like it in cartoons or in jokes that kids could understand. I think that parents have to know what their kids are watching and explain to them that what the TV does isn't right. Parents should also take advantage of current adult blockers that can block shows based on language.

I don't really mind the B word or SOB, but I'm always still shocked when I hear the F word in a TV show, especially when they over-use it. It just sounds so wrong and they could surely avoid using it.

I think it has gone too far, cause so many parents aren't home to supervise their kids and then they watch whatever it is that they want to cause most of them don't take the time to use the lock out feature for kids. Call me old fashioned thats ok, I'm just seriously careful what my child watches and what I watch when she is in the room. Don't get me wrong I do watch shows with cussing in it, but its hard for me to be able to sit through a show with my daughter in the room cause I don't want her picking up all those things.
