Have you ever actually believed a myth to be real? Which one was it?

Now, I'm not talking about Urban legends such as Big Foot or the Loch Ness monster. I'm talking about myths. For instance, I had always heard tomato juice is the only thing that will get the smell of being skunked, off of you. It wasn't until I was 22 before I found out that was not true.

Hey AmbiePam. How did you find out the tomato juice thing was false? I've always heard that too but never want to test it. lol! As a kid I believed men had one less rib than women because of the God created Eve from Adam's rib story. But it's not true.

I believed that too! I mean it was fairly recent before I found out men and women had the same amount of ribs. I felt silly for not knowing that, but that is a myth VERY widely spread. As for the tomato juice and skunks, thank the Lord I never had to test the the theory myself! LOL My dad grew up in the country and one day he stepped on a snake and took off running. Right into a skunk that sprayed him. His mother and aunt tried the tomato juice and it didn't work. Later, I read about this myth on the internet and his story was validated. To top it all off, I then saw the myth tried and disproved on 'Mythbusters.'

lol hmmm I always believed that skunk one! I never heard it wasn't true until you just said so..lol! Also I believe in the old wives tale about holding the string over your belly when your pregnant, and it would do certain things for boy or girl! I believed in that until I started having kids and it always did the wrong one..haha!

I heard, that if you put somebody's engegament ring to your finger, that her marriage will go wrong. Once I drew my sister's engegament ring to my finger. And then I thought this myth is a stupidness, and I do not have to care about it, because their marriage is super, and my sister is a superwife, and her husband is a great man. Now my sister is very sad. Her husband cheats her for 1-2yrs. (maybe more?) and I remember, that it could begin in that time when I drew the ring to my finger. I have not spoken about it to her. But... I am sad too.

I'm so sorry that your sister's husband has turned out to be so unfaithful. It is neither your fault or your sisters, yet you both have to suffer for it. I wish only the best for you two.

That mirrors can help block evil from coming into the house or room. I do believe that since many people I know experienced it. I don't hang mirrors at the door or anything but I do believe that.
