if price doesn't matter then how about
intel "kentsfield" quadcore
nvidia 680i chipset motherboard
2 x 8800GTX in SLI
2x2gb of ram
2 x 160GB raptor drive in RAID 0
500GB HDD
and a couple more of peripherals

it depends upon your need. For normal home use, and play games and some multimedia works I will give this config.
Main board should be 900+.
dual core (so that you do not feel outdated after a year of purchasing).
get a good low end graphics card.
1 GB RAM.
AND other things as you like...
