Has anyone had bad experiences with this group? Do you think they are the only true religion or a high control group, with cultic tendencies? Is anyone being shunned for doing a "fade" or from just leaving all together? How has their treatment of you affected you? Do you think they chould be called to account for their emotionally abusive practices?

Jehovah Witnessess are no more fanatical than any other religion. Some are just more main stream, acceptable, reliable etc ... Religion is a form of worship. Some need more 'form' within their lives to hold themselves accoutable and respectable. It is when you earnestly look within your own self for the 'Truth' the answers will be given to you. We all come to the knowledge of God differently. Sooner, or later ... later or sooner. Truth always prevails in the same way! 'When the student is ready ... the Teacher will appear'.

I don't think this group is doing the right thing however they ARE trying. Their beliefs are cruel to children because they don't believe in parties and for a child that is a child of a parent in this group having to go outside of the room or to the office and wait for the party to end is mean and cruel. God didn't put us on this earth to not enjoy life but TO enjoy life and be good to each other.

What gets to me is that they seem to have so little humility. Instead of saying something like" Brothers and sisters, it's our current understanding that . . . however, we are only human and you should be guided by your conscience," they instead assert something dogmatically and punish those who don't go along. If you don't agree with the latest dictates from Brooklyn you are considered an independant thinker, with a pride problem, not truly teachable. The Society, while claming to not be inspired, then tells people that they are God's sole channel of truth, that God reveals things only to them. You can't have it both ways--either you are inspired or you aren't. They may be well-meaning but their teachings are harsh and very intollerant. They claim to be champions of religious liberty and freedom of expression but the only freedom of expression they tolerate is there own. In other religions, if somone becomes innactive, this doesn't mean losing their familyor their whole social network opf friends.
