Affirmative action means taking positive steps to increase the representation of women and minorities in the areas of employment, education, and business from which they were historically excluded. This political policy has affected everyone and is very controversial. Do you agree of disagree with affirmative action? How has this affected you? How did it make you feel? Do you think its fair? Here's my feeling. I disagree with affirmative action. I believe that everyone should have a fair chance and I believe that employers, schools, and business should be held accountable. What I do not agree with is taken someone in a school or job because of their race or because they are female. I believe that these places should be able to take who they feel is the best canidate despite all of this. I believe that this should also be true for scholarships in school as well as special job opportunities. In my personal experience, I went to a private high school that was largely minority, but highly achieveing. I was one of the few white males in the school. I applied to a small college that did not have much of a minority population. Two other African American woman also applied to the same school and recieved full scholarships. I receieved a very partial scholarship. THe bad part of it was that I had higher SAT's, was ranked higher in school, had taken more rigorous courses, and was involved more in school then these two students. I felt it was completely unfair that this happened to me. My family was struggling just as much if not more finalcially then these students and I could have benefited greatly from a full scholarship. This was not fair at all to me and it felt like I was being held down because I was a white male. Please express your feelings and thoughts to the questions above.
