For some strange reason, when I start to cry, Every time my eyes tear up, I also suddenly start to yawn. Does anyone else do this? Does anyone know why?

i think this is a lernt response. Psychologists tell us that we will try to divert attention from something we feel slightly embarassed about (for example crying) by doing something like yawning. blessded be

Oh, this is indeed strange! You wanna see a doctor? I hope it is not some medical conditions... And no, it doesn't happen to me and I haven't heard of such cases either. :/

I don't think that this has ever happened to me. If it has, I don't remember. Don't know why it would happen. The first response sounds like a good enough reason for me though.

No, I dont start to yawn until after I have cried alot. I cant seem to stop crying anymore, once I start. I hate to cry and it seems that I do it at the strangest places. My husband and I went out to dinner and I was so happy that I started to cry, right there in the restaurant. I was so embarrassed.

that's nothing to be embarrased about.....there's nothing wrong with a happy cry!

I experienced that one time. I started to cry but started yawning, and my heart started to race and I was disoriented, later found out that I suffered a nervous breakdown. Not saying this will happen to you, but there could some type unknown anxiety. Have you seen your physician?

Hmm...my eyes tend to water when I yawn, but not vice versa. It might have something to do with the decreased flow of oxygen when you're crying though. Yawns typically come because the body isn't getting enough air, so it gulps in large amounts during yawns. Since your breathing slows as you get sleepier, I'm fairly certain that's one of the reasons you yawn when tired. It's possible that if you breathe differently when crying, it might trigger the same reaction.
